This is the story that they tell on their website:
Jack Brown’s is a bar that happens to sell a really fantastic burger.
The menu is purposely simple, and we don’t try to please all tastes.
The day Aaron and Mike opened in Harrisonburg, their very first customer came in, sat down, asked for a cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato, and then proceeded to walkout because they didn’t serve any burgers with lettuce and tomato.
Their second customer was a fan, but it was Aaron’s brother… Needless to say they eventually found people who were really into what they were doing.
We choose to focus on doing one thing and doing it really well. Our burgers are unique and crave-able. We always stock an exciting variety of all styles of craft beer, ranging from local darlings to rare beers from around the world.
Our staff is the “special sauce” that brings all of this together. They have all been trained to guide you through the world of craft beer and crazy burgers and to make sure you have a great time.
Aaron and Mike designed the bar that they would want to hang out in, and since they grew up as drinking buddies, it wasn’t too difficult a task. We hope you enjoy your experience at Jack Brown’s, but really we just want you to feel welcome. We claim this joint in the name of good beer, good food, and good people! Cheers!
I’m torn on my opinion of Jack Browns. Having been to the location in Murfreesboro I was excited to find out Chattanooga also had a location. I’ve been to Jack Browns in Chattanooga a total of five times and this is the story of each time.
First time going to Jack Browns Chattanooga
I had just found out about the location in Chattanooga and was super excited to get a burger one evening for dinner. It was winter time and doing that rainy sleety snow thing Chattanooga weather tends to do. As I walked in the door behind a couple of people a bartender told everyone in a not very friendly way the tables were full and we all needed to wait outside. I did not know the people in front of me so I can’t confirm if they stood outside to wait for a burger at a bar or not. I damn sure didn’t though. No burger I have ever eaten is good enough to wait outside in the cold. I left and was done with this Jack Browns location at this point, with the intention of never going back. Driving an hour and a half to Murfreesboro in my toasty warm Jeep for a burger is totally reasonable. Waiting outside in the cold is not.
Second time going to Jack Browns at this location
I was livid when Jack Browns was on the burger week schedule because to eat every burger that meant I had to go back. Trying to give them some grace, and forgiving the bartender as he may have been overwhelmed and I may have taken it extra personally since I was probably a little bit hangry, I sucked it up and went back. This time I went in the middle of the afternoon and the service was better as most places usually are when they are less busy. The bartender from the time before was not there so I can not comment on any difference in his attitude. For reference, I spent several years in the service industry and I am not one of those people that gets offended if their server doesn’t smile. It takes a seriously rude server for me to even remember the interaction let alone tell others about it.
Third time going to Jack Browns Chattanooga
The third time I went to Jack Browns was the opening night of Nightfall. I was meeting someone from Instagram and was the one to pick the meeting place. I met my now assistant for a couple drinks and absolutely adored our server from that night. He was super funny and at some point I’m pretty sure I even decided that since he has the same name as my cousin that made us honorary cousins. I told him the story about the first night and why I almost didn’t want to come back and said I wasn’t the first person he had heard something of the sort from. At this point I was under the impression my first trip here was a fluke interaction on a particularly busy night.
Fourth trip to Jack Browns
I’m honestly not sure this even counts as a time but in the sake of being transparent I feel like it needs to be added to this article. I was in the burger joint/bar for about 15 total minutes this time. I ordered one beer and was just there to go with my assistant and sat with her while she waited for someone she was meeting there.
Fifth time trying to eat at Jack Browns
I had some people coming in from out of town that I planned a custom trip guide for, they ended up coming in a night earlier than planned so I wanted to meet them for a beer and maybe a burger. I suggested going to Jack Browns and went down to get a table before they got there. I did forget that it was trivia night, which is understandably busy. As I stepped inside the door a different bartender told me they were full for trivia. Thats fine, completely understand that. I turned around and as my hand touched to door to leave a lady sitting at the table yelled out “that means get the f out” except she didn’t say f. Now, I understand some people can not handle a pitcher of beer split with friends so although it irritated me I continued to step out the door. Thats when I heard the bartender tell her thank you and that she was tired of people trying to come in. While it was a guest that said something rude this time it did bother me that the bartender thanked her. As of right now I do not intend on ever going back to the Jack Browns in Chattanooga. The one in Murfreesboro, however, will still see my smiling face.
The purpose of telling you those stories in detail
While I don’t plan on going back to Jack Browns in Chattanooga, I don’t feel like it is a reason good enough to not tell people they can find a kick ass burger there. With my custom travel guide planning and being known for loving to eat I feel like it is important to be completely honest and trustworthy. If you’re looking for a good burger Jack Browns is absolutely on the top 5 places to go in the Scenic City. I don’t want to send someone somewhere and have them get told to leave before they even try a burger. Should you eat a burger from Jack Browns? Absolutely. Is there a possibility that a bartender is going to be a dick to you? Judging by my personal experiences there’s a 20% chance. Do with that information what you will.
