What the hell did I just read? First of all, I did not know The Hunting Wives by May Cobb was such a slutty beach read when I picked it for the April book club book. In no way am I saying I didn’t enjoy it or I’m against slutty beach reads, because I’m not – I just wasn’t expecting it from this book.

I don’t “rate” books because that’s way too stressful for me. For The Hunting Wives review  I do have to give May Cobb some serious credit though because I genuinely did not see most of the twists coming. This isn’t my usual kind of messed up book but it absolutely is messed up. I’ve never read a book before that I legitimately hated all the characters, so props to her for writing them that way.

If you have not read the book yet, and intend on doing so stop reading now. There are all the spoilers and opinions ahead that you probably do not want to see.

Seriously There Are Spoilers Ahead

Alright, I’ve told you twice now. If you continue reading this do not complain that I spoiled the book for you.

I spent most of the book wondering what was so damn special about Margot that Sophie was so obsessed with her. She’s crazy, she cheats on her husband with pretty much anybody, she sleeps with her friends high school aged son, and she is basically the leader of the mean girls adult style.

The rest of the time I was feeling sorry for Graham and wishing Jamie and Abby would just get together. At first I felt sorry for Erin as well but I forgot about her almost as quickly as Sophie did.

This book could have been called Sophies Choice – they just keep getting worse. I swear this chick didn’t learn from her mistakes AT ALL. As a matter of fact she continuously made worse and worse decisions and I found myself yelling at her to tell her damn husband the truth! I would say that was one of the things that bothered me the most but lets get real banging an 18 year old who happens to be your friends son as well is pretty icky.

Callie has her redeeming moment, but not with out being a full on psychopath first. I mean home girl is drugging bitches, pointing shotguns at multiple people, and watching them get it in. At least she’s committed to her level of crazy I guess.

These bitches are never not drinking. Drinking while shooting, drinking while upset their sons girlfriend is missing, drinking at church (I just made that one up) but seriously they are always drunk. Which I guess makes sense if you think about all the dumbass shit they do. They would have to be drunk to think it’s ok.

All in all, May Cobb is a fantastic writer to make me have such strong feelings about a book. I meant it when I said I was yelling at Sophie multiple times throughout the book. Would I recommend this book to someone that loves psychological thrillers? Probably not. But if someone wants a quick trashy beach read. Totally on the top of that list.
